Do you still remember your favourite childhood sweater that your dadi or nani (grandmother)  knitted and you outgrew it too soon? How much you cherished it! You can still recall its warmth and its texture. There was a certain evocation of love and care that went into making it.

Unpurl was born out of rediscovering this joy of hand-knitting and crocheting. All our products are handmade, supporting livelihoods and empowering women to be self-sufficient and be able to make a decent income out of it. These women could be the women of our house, our house-helps making a side income in their spare time or anybody who wishes to learn the skill and contribute.

Unpurl is also about changing our relationship with knitting and crocheting. We strive to change the image of knitting : Your grandmother’s favourite pastime. It has now become more than that. Men are knitting and so are corporate women. Knitting is no longer just associated with winters. Its as much a technique as weaving or stitching or mending.
